Soldier of Love

I don’t consider myself a girly girl but I do I do like things girly. I enjoy getting my hair done, my nails done, having makeup applied, and soaking in Calgon baths. I love wearing dresses and skirts, high heels that sparkle, and spraying pretty perfume. I don’t like bugs or dirt or getting my clothes wet. I’m a lady and like to be treated as such. I like to have the door opened, the chair pulled out, and need the man to take the lead. I’m slightly old-fashion that way.

So how is it this gorgeous sexy woman can make me feel the way a man makes me feel? Her name is Helen Folasade Adu, better known as Sade, and she has one of the most melodic and sensual voices to ever kiss my ears. I cherish the day I first heard her sing.

Many moons ago, my good friend Derick took me to my first Sade concert. We went to the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland, an outdoor arena where you can feeeel the music under the stars. Our seats were second row center, so close we could kiss Sade’s feet. There weren’t any pyrotechnics in her show. No backup dancers to supplement the entertainment. There wasn’t too much of anything except for a superior voice, controlled lighting, and an haute band to set the mood. I was mesmerized, truly captured under her sweetest taboo. And by the end of the night, I was a lesbian. I was so in love with Helen Folasade Adu I didn’t know what to do with myself. Is it a crime?

And now, 10 years after her last masterpiece, Sade is blessing us with more of that tantalizing music we have enjoyed for over 20 years. Soldier of Love is due to be released February 8, 2010 and I am to the moon with anticipation. I’m almost positive a concert is on the horizon, which means I must start, putting my money aside NOW in order to get up close and personal with my sweet love again. Nothing can come between us.
